Lunar (Chinese) New Year

The year of the Tiger

The Lunar New Year falls on February 1st 2022. It is when the New Moon occurs in China. But why is this important for Chinese people?

You’ve probably heard about the lunisolar calendar. It is based on exact astronomical observations of the Sun’s longitude and the Moon’s phases. Even though nowadays modern China uses Gregorian Calendar, the lunisolar calendar is still used to determine important festival dates such as the Lunar New Year.

In 2022, the Lunar New Year is the Year of the Tiger. Tiger is one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. The animal designations of the zodiac follow a 12-year cycle and are always used in the same sequence.

People born under the sign of the Tiger (1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022) are known for their bravery and spontaneous nature. We can anticipate seeing a lot of this, together with action and adventure, throughout the year. The Tiger is a sign that is passionate and sensitive. The sensitivity will be boosted, which carries more emotional drama. Last but not least, expect more luck this year. The Tiger is a lucky animal. It always lands on their feet, and other signs are often astonished at the way they manage to get themselves out of hot water.

Remember, it is always wise to exercise caution with Tiger energy.
